These fully guided, 1-on-1 hunts are designed to challenge hunters and deliver unforgettable memories. We offer 3 weeks of hunts each May for a total of 6 hunters each season.
Mobile Spike Camps
Our Spot & Stalk hunts are based out of mobile spike camps featuring lightweight tipi tents. This setup allows us to remain mobile each week and cover the vast backcountry terrain effectively. As these hunts are entirely backpack-based, meals consist of both fresh food and high-quality freeze-dried meals to keep you fueled for the challenges ahead.

The Hunt
Hunters will spend their days trekking through steep and unforgiving terrain, relying on glassing primarily to locate trophy-class bears. The rugged landscape and physical demands make this hunt a true test of endurance and determination. This adventure is perfect for those ready to embrace the challenge and reap the rewards of hunting Idaho’s color-phase black bears in the remote backcountry.
Trophy-Class Color-Phase Bears
Idaho is home to some of the most unique color-phase black bears in the world. Bears can range in color from chocolate and blonde to cinnamon, with many variations in between. Our focus on maintaining a mature boar population ensures hunters have the opportunity to pursue truly exceptional trophies.

FAQs
How physically demanding is a spot and stalk bear hunt?
Spot and stalk hunts in the Salmon River canyons are not for the faint of heart. While we may not traverse dozens of miles, you will gain and lose thousands of feet of elevation most days. This country is very steep and this hunt will tank you in large part off trail in search for big boars.
How far should I expect to shoot?
We tell everyone to practice, practice, practice. While a long range shot is not mandatory, the ability to shoot 500-600 yards will greatly improve your opportunities at big bears. In the steep canyon, it is common for cross canyon shots to be around 500 yards. If you aren’t shooting cross canyon, you may have to hike with 100-200 yards on the same side to get a clean shot.
How many bears do you see on average?
Most days hunters may see as many as over a dozen bears. Our guides will help you to hold out out for a true trophy class bear, patience and perseverance are some of your most valuable skills.
What should I expect to be eating?
We supply home-made freeze dried meals for dinners each night, a mixture of cold cut sandwiches, freeze dried, and brats for lunches, as well as burritos and oatmeal for breakfasts. We also have a large assortment of snacks in camp each week to keep you well fueled for your hunt.
Are larger bears killed on spot and stalk or baited hunts?
On average we are far more consistent on larger bears over bait, but some real giants have been taken on spot and stalk hunts. Overall it is far easier to judge large bears and be very particular about harvest selection when hunting out baited areas. The advantage to spot and stalk bear hunts is the ability to hunt other areas that rarely see any pressure and we are unable to bait in. You never know what you might glass up.
